LOCATION...LOCATION...LOCATION
This is a vitally important aspect of your home buying process. You may have already chosen your location or you may still not be sure of the perfect area for you. If you have not, this is one of the first things you should determine before getting serious in your home searching.

Work. You will want to consider you location in conjunction with your workplace. Is it more important to get a bigger house for less or a shorter drive to work? Is a bigger yard important or willyou settle for something smaller if you do not have to battle traffic to get home? These are just a few questions to ask yourself.

Schools. If you have school age children you will want to research schools by looking at the schools statistics and report cards. Even better visit a few of the schools in the areas you are considering and gather information about each. Although do keep in mind that there is no way to determine if your home may be rezoned for a different or new school in the future so make sure you look at all the schools in a particular area. The Tennessee Schools Report Card has testing scores for schools in the state of Tennessee.

Shopping/Attractions. You may be a night owl or just love to shop. Either way you will want to research what the area you are considering has to offer in the way of shopping and/or activities you may enjoy. How far away is the local mall, restaraunts, downtown nightlife, attractions. On the other hand you may find that living a bit farther away from the hustle and bustle of the urban life is for you. In this case you may want to look in more rural areas but keep in mind long term growth for the area you may choose.

Cost of Living. Make sure that when you choose an area it is well within your budget. You do not want to set yourself up for disappointment by choosing an area that you really can not afford. It is better to start in a comfortable range for the price of home and go up a little if you must to find the best option. Also keep in mind that choosing an area where your home is in the median range will help with resale in the future.
